Definitions

1. The inferior colliculi are hemispherical, and somewhat more prominent than the superior.
2. The inferior colliculi (lower or posterior quadrigeminal bodies) are important auditory reflex centers.

Forward

1. They run upward and forward, and, passing under the inferior colliculi, enter the tegmenta as already described (page 792).

1. The inferior colliculi of the midbrain are located just below the visual processing centers known as the superior colliculi.
2. The mid-brain roof thus becomes a four-lobed structure, the corpora quadrigemina - two superior colliculi (visual) and two inferior colliculi (auditory).

Tectum

1. TECTUM: That region of the Mesencephalon dorsal to the Cerebral Aqueduct, containing the two Superior colliculi and two Inferior Colliculi.
2. The dorsal part is called the tectum, which consists of two elevations, the superior and inferior colliculi.

Inferior Colliculi

1. The tectum (roof) of the midbrain, that part dorsal to the cerebral aqueduct, consists of paired bumps called the superior and inferior colliculi.
2. Transverse section of mid-brain at level of inferior colliculi.
