Definitions Districts are subdived into sub-divisions and tehsils or talukas (the later title more common across the four states of south India). Districts are further subdivided, in some cases into Sub-Divisions, and otherwise directly into tehsils or talukas. The districts are further subdivided into wards, which are presided over by hereditary chiefs and administered by district coordinators.
